What Is Poi

Poi' is the Maori word for 'ball' on a cord or string. Poi is considered to be a form of juggling in a sense.  The balls of the poi are swung around ones body to create a pattern.

From it's beginnings Poi had the purpose of enhancing rhythm and dance for the practicing individuals. It  was very soon realised that Poi swinging had several other benefits - including, wrist strength, flexibility and improving co-ordination to name a but a few.

I have added  an image of myself enjoying a fire set whilst a good friend of mine took a few shots with his cannon.

Poi is a wonderful art form and if you are serious about learning how to poi I recommend you get started as soon as you can. There are plenty of videos and great lessons out there so you will never be short on learning material.
Mastering the simplest moves can quickly improve your self-esteem and confidence levels. You will also gain respect from your peers within your circles, because they will know just how tricky it is to master. Hence the reason it quickly becomes so pleasurably addictive. Like all performance arts you are only limited by your imagination and drive.

Get started today!
